Brazil Dani Alves returns home to play for Sao Paulo

Brazillian Dani Alves returned to his native country after playing for the top clubs in Europe in 17 years.

The Former fullback signed a three-year contract with Sao Paulo.

After the end of his contract with Paris Saint-Germain in June, the Brazil international clarified his decision on a Twitter video shared on the club website.

The left-back said he could have picked any team to play for; however, he chose to return to Brazil, to his country, his people, and to the club he loved.

From Sevilla, the fullback moved to Barcelona and then played for Juventus and PSG. He won nine national league titles within those times: six in Spain, one in Italy and two in France.

He has gathered 40 trophies in all with country and club including three Champions League titles with Barcelona and two UEFA Cup titles with Sevilla.

Also, the right-back has won two Copa Americas with Brazil in 2007 and 2019. He was voted player of the tournament as he captained Brazil to victory over Peru in the final at the famous Maracana stadium in Rio.

“Once, I told Daniel that he would come to play at Sao Paulo, the club of his heart,” said club president Carlos Augusto in an announcement.

His new club Sao Paulo is in the fifth position in the Brazilian league after 12 matches and eight points behind table leaders Santos.

According to Sao Paulo officials, the fullback may be introduced to fans next week.
