Chelsea Centre-back David Luiz looks set to join Arsenal after Chelsea agreed to sell the Brazillian for £8m.
The move which came out of nowhere will strengthen Arsenal’s defence after the departure of Laurent Koscielny to Bordeaux.
As gathered by Sportsmail, David Luiz had been an undeniably troublesome figure at the club lately, coming full circle in Wednesday’s unexpected development.
The Brazilian, as gathered, reported for training yet was not associated with the senior set-up throwing question over his situation at the club.
Many sources believe the choice for Luiz not to train with Frank Lampard’s squad was mutual. However, there were other views from different insiders on Wednesday night who feel his exclusion was a plan from the defender to force a transfer to Arsenal.
The 32-year-old defender will leave Stamford Bridge for the Emirates Stadium, boosting head coach Unai Emery’s backline options.
David Luiz first joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2011. He then left for Paris after three years at Stamford Bridge. He came back to west London in 2016 and won the Premier League title in his first year again at the club.
The defender was a regular starter for the Blues last season; however, the appointment of Frank Lampard as Chelsea’s new director has led to some changes.
The summer transfer window in England closes at 5 pm on Thursday, which means both clubs should now act quickly to get the transfer concluded. David Luiz is expected to sign a two-year deal with Arsenal.
Chelsea cannot replace the departing defender as they are currently serving a transfer ban that enables players to leave but cannot bring in any new players.
